OUR STORY

LUXURY FROM THE FARM

Luxury From The Farm

MY STORY • CARYN

A couple of years ago, I found myself thinking wistfully about a little side-yard vegetable garden I once grew and how much I missed the simple pleasure of working with the earth. I longed to experience again the joy that gardening and farming had always brought me—the satisfaction of planting something by hand, tending it carefully, and watching it grow. It was from that longing that Luxury From The Farm began.

I envisioned a lifestyle brand that would bring together the things I have loved for most of my life: growing beautiful food, painting, creating with my own hands, and, more recently, home fragrance. My background in organic cosmetic chemistry naturally led me to candle making, and I began developing fragrances inspired by the gardens I have grown, the farms I have tended, and those wonderfully familiar scents found in nature—damp earth after rain, tomato vines warmed by the sun, herbs crushed between your fingers, weathered wood, moss, flowers, and fields.

Every fragrance in the collection is my own formulation, and every candle is hand-poured by me in small batches. What began in my small loft in the heart of Skaneateles Village in Upstate New York gradually grew into something more: a collection that could tell the story of country life not only through fragrance, but through the vessels that held it.

When I first began making the ceramic vessels for Luxury From The Farm, I worked with a ceramic artist on a small collection of approximately twenty-five pieces. The vessels were thrown on the wheel and fired so that I could glaze and finish them myself. That early experience was valuable, but it also made me realize how much I wanted the ceramics to be entirely my own—from the first piece of raw clay to the finished vessel.

“So I purchased my own kiln and began making them myself.”

Today, I create each ceramic vessel by hand from scratch, allowing the slight variations, texture, and character of the clay to remain part of its beauty. I glaze and finish each piece myself, develop every fragrance, and pour every candle. There is something deeply satisfying about being involved in the entire process and knowing that what leaves my hands is truly a product I have created.

The heart of Luxury From The Farm has never changed. It is about making beautiful, thoughtfully crafted things for the home that feel personal, useful, and enduring—pieces inspired by the warmth of country living and intended to be enjoyed well beyond a single season. My ceramic vessels are designed to be kept and refilled with fragrances from the collection, making them as practical and sustainable as they are beautiful.

And the “Farm” in Luxury From The Farm is very much a real part of my life. I have grown tomatoes for most of my life, and I still do. This year, I have seventy-eight varieties planted. The garden remains one of my greatest pleasures and one of my greatest sources of inspiration. So many of my ideas begin there, among the tomato vines, herbs, flowers, rich soil, and all of the wonderful scents that come from a life spent close to the land.

Luxury From The Farm is, in many ways, the story of all of those things coming together—farming, fragrance, painting, ceramics, and a lifelong appreciation for making something beautiful with one's own hands.

I am always happy to answer questions about my work directly and believe transparency is an important part of owning a small, handmade business. I can be reached at caryn@luxuryfromthefarm.com.
